I’ve watched, supported and still believe in President Obama. I think that we as americans should just take a few seconds to try and understand…Politics. The red tape, hidden agendas and a history filled with secrets that only a president are privey too. These things alone are more than enough reason for anyone to take pause, redirect and modify energies. I for one couldn’t be any madder about not having a public option than the gays-catholics-capitalist-unemployed - under paid- under educated; and the indebted educated are about their issue’s. But I understand that just as it is with any job you will have those that want you to fail and visa versa. I say lets trust the man we hired; he hasn’t forgot what he went to Washington for. And please, please tell anyone you know who may not understand how important getting health care to pass is; not to be fooled by the negative spin in the media-we need a public option. I think Subway restaurants makes a great example: By offering the five dollar foot long they literally forced other restaurants which wanted to maintain a customer base to also find an affordable meal alternative for their customers. That’s the public option in a nut shell. It would be there to make sure insurers offer a fair product at a good price. Don’t be a fair weather friend, trust the man who can get this thing right. There are one hundred and one things he can’t tell you or anyone else that directly affect everything he does. That’s 200 years of corruption and secret’s that many have spent their lives protecting..

I think about it a litte differently. Subway is not the government. They are part of the free market and that’s what created competition. Most government programs soak up our tax dollars and fail at getting the goal reached. So therefore, I don’t trust that public option would be best on the federal level. I think if states wanted to offer a plan that would be a good place to start something new before implementing a nationwide government program. I just read your book – great by the way, thank you for sharing your story – Blessing to you and your dh!
Anna, thanks for reading Cucumbers Have Thorns; and for leaving your views on the Public Option. I hear what you are saying, however I think our understanding of how system works may differ. Let me try to convey the three aspects of what makes this the most viable way for millions of americans to receive affordable health care to me. 1) Subway has always been apart of the free market-it was only when they created (offered) and affordable meal deal that they forced the free market to respond. Now,with that in mind; the public option, although government ran is paid into by it’s members. Not tax payers-the adminstrative sector is already in place. This provides the ability for the millions who may want to join to participate. Now, take that same Option and put it at a State level-doing so would substaintually lower number of participaints which will increase cost. Plus you now have to create an administravtive sector in each state which will cost far more time and money. I, like you am opposed to government programs that cost citizens their hard earn money and gives little in return. Like welfare; I am in the middle of working on legislation that hopefully will be introduced addressing that very issue. I don’t feel WE should pay for kids who are not in school. It is more complicated than that, but if your child does not attend school on a regular bases he or she is more likely themself to end up on system…I’ll speak more on that when it’s ready. As you know I have been on many sides of the tracks. So I don’t speak from an economic, racial or personal preference. I’ve lived it, and paid into a system for years in a Country where I am afraid to get sick because I couldn”t afford to go to the hospital. For once when or if I’m turned away I’d like to know that it wasn’t because a company that is already earning 800% mark up on services was the only reason why. Holla back!
